International Women’s Day 2024
Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress.
In every corner of the world, women face significant obstacles to achieving equal participation in the economy. Around 2.4 billion women of working age are not afforded equal economic opportunity as men. That’s why this International Women’s Day, we’re calling on everyone to ‘Count Her In’ and shine a spotlight on women’s economic inclusion and the steps we need to take to accelerate progress.

For many, poverty, early marriage, humanitarian crises, and discriminatory norms can mean their opportunities for an education are cut short, leaving them at risk of being left behind. UN Women’s Second Chance Education program is one of our many global initiatives to bridge these gaps and empower women.

Second Chance Education leverages strategic partnerships and technology to bring high-quality learning opportunities to women from Indigenous, refugee, displaced and low-income groups. Over the last five years, the program has been running in Cameroon, Chile, India, Jordan, Mexico, and on our own soil here in Australia.

The Second Chance Education program has proven that when women are offered this opportunity, when they are equipped with skills and confidence, they can change the future for themselves, their families, and their communities.

This International Women’s Day, you can invest in women too. By donating to UN Women Australia, you can be part of the change urgently needed for women and girls around the world.
